Essential Questions: How does acid rain affect animals, plants, air quality, and our environment in general? What part do humans play in acid rain? How can individuals, corporations, and worldwide governments make better choices about the global environment?
Acid rain is also called toxic rain. It is occurs when chemicals in the atmosphere mix with water vapor, and the resulting rain contains toxic chemicals. One of the most common causes of acid rain is the burning of fossil fuels which releases chemicals such as sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxide into the atmosphere. When these combine with water vapor, they form sulfuric acid and nitric acid which then fall to the earth in the form of rain, fog, or dew.

I learned a lot about the atmosphere at JASON. I was involved in the analysis of “thermal blooming” of high-power lasers when they are weakly absorbed by H 2 O and CO 2 molecules in the atmosphere. The physics is closely related to that of greenhouse warming. I learned about the physics of the tropopause, where much of the wavefront distortion of starlight or defensive laser beams takes place. I was one of 14 JASON coauthors of one the first books on global warming, with the nerdy title, The Long-Term Impacts of Increasing Atmospheric Carbon Dioxide Levels , edited by Gordon J. MacDonald (Ballinger Publishing Co., 1982). We over-predicted the warming from more CO 2 as badly as later establishment models, a topic to which I will return below.

climbed mt pinagbanderahan last wednesday..well stablished na yung trail..as in sementado na(tho may part pa ring hindi pa mga 20-30 meters din)!! puro hagdan. yung 1st view deck may shed na..yung summit nagkaron na ng stage na para sa flagpole..maganda na rin ung marker. still stunning 360 view of Quezon national park & nearby mountains & isla grande ng pagbilao.

Tell me, Dr. Lawrence Kotlikoff, who served under Reagan in the Treasury, and is now at Boston Univ, said (last I looked)if you you took ALL the unfunded liabilities in the US, the debt was not 19 Trillion, but 222 trillion (last I looked). A few years ago, USA Today stated the number of 73 trillion. Now, unless we have incredible growth, there are ONLY three ways to do pay this back – inflation, raise taxes or cut services. Yes, there ARE permutations of this, and you can combine all three, but high level, those are the three. Cut services? The sheeple will riot when their free lunches are taken away. Raise taxes? People go Galt.
